Article – Prime Minister Lays Foundation Stone for Um Alhoul Economic Zone

HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani laid the foundation stone for “Um Alhoul Special Economic Zone” project, in Um Alhoul area, on Monday morning.
HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister underlined that in order to achieve the vision of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani for the development of Qatar’s economy and open the fields of investment and development to the national private sector and to local and foreign investments, the government has focused on a large number of initiatives that improve the investment climate and increase the chances of projects available to the private sector.
HE the Premier and Interior Minister said that one of the most important initiatives were the Special Economic Zones projects for whom the Ministry of Economy and Trade exerted a distinct effort in planning them in order to allow the opportunities of expansion and investment for the private sector. The State of Qatar has established, for the first time, new areas for the development of production and service activities like storage, industry and logistics activities.
HE the Premier noted that Qatar established the economic zones company “Manateq” to develop and operate three special economic zones that provide infrastructure in accordance with the highest international standards in order to reach new levels of economic diversity and promote the growth of the small and medium-sized companies and private sector.
He added that economic zones are the most important tools which countries adopt in its quest to provide care and attention to industrial and productive sectors in order to develop them.
Then, HE the Premier and Interior Minister toured the accompanying exhibition where he listened to an explanation about the infrastructure and implementation phases, and the logistics services provided in support of the petrochemical industry, construction materials, marine industries and services and logistics services. HE also listened to an explanation about the marine channel, which was created to accommodate the marine industry activities.
