The Rockhampton Regional Council says it will capitalise on spin-off opportunities from a major gas pipeline in the region.
The Rockhampton council yesterday decided to form a partnership with the Isaac and Gladstone regional councils to negotiate with Arrow Energy over its proposed liquefied natural gas pipeline between the Bowen Basin and Curtis Island.
The council’s economic development manager, Rick Palmer, told yesterday’s council meeting, the project had huge economic potential for the region.
Mr Palmer said there would be large numbers of people employed on the pipeline project who would be using Rockhampton as a service centre.
He said the project was the most significant economic growth opportunity for the city in the next two to three years.
Arrow Energy plans to hold a public information session in Rockhampton early in the new year.
