‘‘GET it right’’ is the advice from the top if applying for a slice of the National Stronger Regions Fund.
Regional Development Australia Townsville and North West Queensland chief executive Glenys Schuntner, who is spearheading the campaign, said the National Stronger Regions Fund would boost social and economic development by funding priority infrastructure projects in local communities.
“The Australian government has committed $1 billion to the fund over five years commencing from 2015–16 and RDA is coordinating information sessions to provide an overview of this fund to interested and eligible stakeholders.”
Mrs Schuntner  said no money  would be handed over willy–nilly.
“My key message to applicants is get it right,’’ she said.
‘‘They must show their projects are well developed, planned and costed.
‘‘Applicants must also demonstrate their projects will benefit  the community.
‘‘I cannot emphasise enough the money is not a handout;  the funding is on a dollar-for-dollar basis.’’
An information session for stakeholders will be held on October 22 from 3.30-5pm at the Mount Isa Centre for Rural and Remote Health, 100 Joan  Street.
There will also be a teleconference briefing from 11am to noon today and sessions in Mount Isa and the Gulf region.
Closing date for applications is November 28.
