A RESOURCE industry expert believes Australia will become the world’s biggest exporter of LNG in three years.
Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association eastern Australia chief Paul Fennelly said Queensland would begin exporting LNG later this year for the first time in the state’s history.
The man in charge of the peak industry association representing Australia’s oil and gas industry was speaking at the state government-organised Major Projects Conference in Brisbane on Thursday.
The construction of Gladstone’s three LNG plants has kept many Australians employed over the past several years.
There are three LNG projects underway on Curtis Island in Gladstone and a fourth planned by Arrow energy, which at this stage is in limbo.
The QCLNG project is expected to come online later this year, with the GLNG and APLNG projects to start exporting in the next 12-18 months.
“We don’t want to miss the opportunity to be globally significant in LNG,” Mr Fennelly said.
