BGC Contracting has won a $60 million contract to supply ballast for Roy Hill’s railway system.
The contract will see BGC provide more than one million tonnes of ballast from its Elazac Quarry, near Port Hedland.
Commenting on the win, BGC CEO Greg Heylen said the company’s work delivering ballast to the nearby Fortescue Metals and BHP Billiton railway lines over a number of years had been a major factor for the Roy Hill contract.
“This contract is the third award BGC Contracting has received for Roy Hill, and we are delighted to extend our participation in a project of this scale and significance,” Heylen said.
In September it won a $420 million contract for the civil earthworks, concreting, and general infrastructure for Roy Hill’s port project.
This came after it won a $120 million contract to build the FIFO aerodrome and the mine’s internal road network in April, 2012.
