YESTERDAY the names of 10 people who will recommend to Prime Minister Tony Abbott how Northern Australia can be better developed were revealed.
These people are members of the Northern Australia Advisory Group and are researchers, former politicians and business leaders from northern Australia.
The advisory group will also make recommendations to Premier Campbell Newman, Northern Territory’s Chief Minister Adam Giles, and Western Australian Premier Colin Barnett.
The members of the advisory group are:
Shane Stone: Chairman Mr Stone is former Chief Minister of the Northern Territory and former Federal President of the Liberal Party.
Wayne Bergmann: Mr Bergmann has served as executive director of the Kimberley Aboriginal Law and Cultural Centre, and as chief executive of KRED Enterprises, an Aboriginal social enterprise.
Jack Burton: Mr Burton is managing director of Yeeda Pastoral Company which operates pastoral leases in the Kimberley with over 60,000 head of cattle, pastoral leases in the Goldfields.
Ken Chapman: Dr Chapman is a Cairns-based business leader with business and community interests in North Queensland.
Sandra Harding: Professor Harding is Vice-Chancellor and president of James Cook University Australia, and manages campuses in Townsville, Cairns and Singapore.
Noeline Ikin: Ms Ikin has served as the chief executive of the Northern Gulf Company Alliance which supports northern regional communities regarding land and water issues.
David Menzel: Mr Menzel is managing director of Barradale Farm, a 700 hectare horticulture property in the Kimberley.
Nicholas Paspaley: Mr Paspaley is the executive chairman of the Paspaley Group of Companies, which has interests in commercial, residential and rural property, aviation, ship repairing, engineering, and jewellery shops.
Trent Twomey: Mr Twomey is the president of the Australian College of Pharmacy, and the chair of Advance Cairns, a regional advocacy and economic development organisation.
Ken Warriner: The former chairman and chief executive of the Consolidated Pastoral Company oversaw the management of 19 properties across the Top End, which comprised of five million hectares and about 300,000 cattle.
Djawa Yunupingu: The Deputy chairman of Gumatj Corporation is also a founding member of the Dhimurru Land Corporation, which is responsible for the land environment of north-east Arnhem Land.
