Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss is expected to attend this year’s Pilbara Pulse Economic Summit in Karratha, as a keynote speaker.
More than 150 delegates from across the country are due to attend the annual conference on July 23.
The summit will explore business and investment opportunities in the region and promote business networking.
Mr Truss is expected to discuss the strategic importance of northern Australia.
This year’s event will focus on small business and diversification, as the local resources sector moves from a construction phase to production.
The Karratha Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s John Lally says tourism will also be a key topic.
“Tourism brings in $7 billion a year to WA of which half of that is spent in the regions,” he said.
“Well we are in the regions and there is very little being spent here and look at the assets we have got with the Burrup and the archipelago.
“The idea of it is to just discuss our situation and to get expert views on where we can go in the future.
“We know what has been done but now we have to look at where we can go.”
