MICHELLE Landry says the Fitzroy food bowl proposal “has the ear” of the Federal Government.
The Capricornia MP said that Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce was briefed about the concept in Rockhampton and was interested to learn more.
It had also been discussed at the recent White Paper taskforce hearings in Rockhampton. The taskforce is looking the future competitiveness of agriculture in Australia.
“Projects that have the potential to create new industries are of great interest to our government, especially at a time when we are looking further into the future potential of Northern Australia in regard to food production,” Ms Landry said.
“Obviously there is still a lot about this particular concept to determine. It requires local government, State Government and expert analysis to ensure it would be viable from an infrastructure and farmer perspective, including things like engineering issues and water costs.
“If the figures add up, bold initiatives are good for unlocking our region’s full potential.”
